The Chamber's number one priority is to push the General Assembly to pass increased, re-occurring funding for South Carolina's roads.  At the start of session, it appeared the Senate was ready to do just that. Immediately, they formed a subcommittee to begin hammering out a solution that would win the majority of support. Now, over a month into the 2016 session, the Senate has yet to take up debate of the bill.  However, there does seem to be agreement between Republicans and Democrats on the funding portion of the legislation. The proposal will add upwards of $650 million dollars per year in additional revenue for the South Carolina Department of Transportation. The discussion has stalled on whether to include the tax relief that the Governor has asked for and how to structure or re-structure SCDOT. Rather than discussing, this week the Senate Finance Committee is hearing testimony from the South Carolina Department of Transportation and the State Transportation Infrastructure Bank to dig deeper into where their funding comes from and how it is distributed with the hopes of making clear the actual funding needed to properly fund our decaying infrastructure. In our opinion, we have studied the need to death.  It is time for action.  Please call your Senator and urge them to act and pass funding for South Carolina's roads.
